The struggling auto industry continued to tumble for the fourth consecutive month with the commercial vehicle (CV) sales for December dipping 58.2 percent and overall sales declining 18.2 percent year-on-year
German luxury carmaker Audi on Wednesday reported a sale of 1,050 units in the year 2008, a three-fold rise compared with the sale of 349 units in the previous year
Passenger car sales continued to decline for the fourth straight month in December and fell 7% to 82,105 cars from 88,272 cars in the same month last year despite the government’s decision to reduce excise duty on cars.
New models, discounts and price cuts helped roll in positive growth in December to end the year on a more cheerful note.
The price cuts and discounts helped revive car and bike sales in December though the numbers still did not match up to last year’s figures.
Skoda India said its total sales for 2008 stood at 16,188 units, registering a growth of 28.5 per cent from 12,596 units in 2007.
The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki reported 9.95 per cent decline in sales during December last year at 56,293 units against 62,515 units in the same month of 2007.
Lack of interest from taxi operators has hit the sales of some models hard.
Carmaker General Motors India reported a 35.95 per cent decline in its domestic sales at 4,041 units in December last year, against 6,309 units in the same month in 2007.
In more bad news for Toyota, Japan’s No. 1 automaker said Wednesday its global vehicle sales plunged 21.8 percent in November, its biggest drop in eight years.
